James S. Jenkins was born in Ft. Benning, Georgia. As the son of a career army officer, Jim lived in many different parts of the world, including Arizona, New York, North Carolina, and Germany. Jim attended college at Furman University where he graduated magna cum laude. While at Furman, Jim learned to speak Spanish through his travels in Guatemala, Mexico, Cuba, and El Salvador.

In 2005, Jim relocated to St. Petersburg, Florida, for law school. He attended Stetson University College of Law where he graduated cum laude. During law school, Jim interned for a large insurance defense firm in Orlando and a full-service law firm in Daytona Beach. Additionally, he interned with the Sixth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office in Clearwater.

Upon graduation, Jim accepted a full-time position as an Assistant State Attorney for the Sixth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office where he tried over 55 jury trials, ranging from first degree felonies to second-degree misdemeanors. Throughout his tenure at the State Attorney’s Office, Jim handled all aspects of criminal law, including meeting with law enforcement officers, assisting with arrest warrants, performing investigations, addressing discovery matters, writing appellate briefs, and negotiating and trying cases. Additionally, Jim served as a traffic court attorney where he oversaw all misdemeanor traffic offense for North Pinellas County.

Following his tenure at the State Attorney’s Office, Jim joined a local prestigious law firm where he handled personal injury and criminal cases in Manatee, Pinellas, Pasco, Hillsborough, and Hernando counties.
